Among her many roles, Diana Furchtgott-Roth is a nationally recognized expert in transportation and technology policy, an influential free-market thought leader, and a well-known senior public servant. She directs the Center on Energy, Climate, and Environment at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
She served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology at the U.S. Department of Transportation where she advised Secretary Elaine Chao on economic matters, led a staff of 1,200, and supervised the Department’s $1.2 billion annual research portfolio.
Prior to joining USDOT, Diana served as Acting Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the U.S. Department of Treasury. Her other senior administration roles have included Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Labor, Chief of Staff of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, and Deputy Executive Secretary of the Domestic Policy Council. Diana has served in The White House under U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush. She has also served as senior fellow and director of Economics21 at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research.
A prolific writer, Diana has published hundreds of influential articles and has frequently provided expert testimony before Congress. She is author or editor of six books on economic policy, most recently United States Income, Wealth, Consumption, and Inequality, published in September 2020 by Oxford University Press.
Diana is also president of Furchtgott International, a firm that provides a select group of clients advisory services on economic and governmental matters.

Diana was born in London and moved to the United States at the age of 9. She earned a BA cum laude in economics from Swarthmore College and a MPhil in economics from Oxford University. The mother of six resides in Chevy Chase, MD with her husband, Harold W. Furchtgott-Roth.
Diana met President Reagan while she was working on his 1986 tax cuts as a junior staff economist in the White House Council of Economic Advisors. The President spoke to the British-born economist of his admiration for Margaret Thatcher on the day before Diana became an American citizen.
Diana leads the Heritage Foundation's new Center for Energy, Climate and Environment. She also serves as the Herbert and Joyce Morgan fellow in energy and environmental policy.
Diana teaches Transportation Economics in the Applied Economics MA program at The George Washington University and is active in the University's Space Policy Institute.
